The ePiano: Growing from the MIDI, software, audio and Internet revolutions
The ePiano fulfills the need for a simpler, more reliable solution that accesses the growing power of modern music technology. The ePiano builds upon several important advances in music technology, summarized briefly as follows:
In the 1980s, the near universal adaptation of the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) standard by electronic musical instrument manufacturers led to the rapid creation of keyboards, sound modules, and musical software. With MIDI, instruments and computers of different brands and models could now “talk” to each other. However, certain technological hurdles and details often kept non-technical users from realizing the benefits of MIDI, and musical software.
The
evolution of digital recording (tech term – sampling)
technology in the 1990s delivered the ability to take
“pictures” of real sounds and recreate them through
special hardware and software. As a result increasingly
realistic sounding electronic musical instruments
emerged. Today, there is no effective difference
between the technology used to create audio CDs and the
technology that creates a keyboard’s internal sounds for
playback through sampling technology.
In the late 1990s and early 21st century, the tools for capturing and manipulating
digital audio became widely available. This gave users
the ability to create their own audio CDs from “live”
sounds, instead of the “canned” internal sounds that
MIDI offered. It has also led to the explosion of other
- technologies that are becoming the standard for music listening today.
The
Internet has proven itself a powerful tool in the music
education and music making process. The ability to
share lesson plans, find public domain files and
software, is opening new avenues everyday for the music
educator and music maker. While in some ways still in
its infancy, this resource is proving itself every day
in new ways that are exciting and filled with promise of
enhancing the music making process.
The ePiano brings
all of the important music technology innovations of the
last 20 years into one simple, comprehensive solution.
With ePiano, software is the primary focus, not a connection or expansion option. Software powers your ePiano experience, from start to finish, from sound generation to education, to composition tools. Since it is designed with software first in mind, the user’s experience is uniform, simple, and reliable.
The ePiano system approach eliminates or reduces the most common music technology complaints – setup and reliability. Our pre-built systems are thoroughly tested before shipping and our software bundles have proven reliable across many different systems, from Dell, HP, IBM etc. Our goal is nothing less than the best music technology experience possible.
To this end, ePiano has created a series of tools that can bring the benefits of music technology to this important goal – creating a life-lasting musical experience.
