cable hook ups and setup tips.
NOTE: Installing Microsoft
Service Pack 2 (SP2) or other known Windows updates
does NOT cause any known conflicts with the ePiano
System. We strongly recommend that all
Internet-connected ePiano systems install this
important operating system upgrade. Systems with
serial numbers ending in numbers above 200 already
include the SP2 upgrade making installation in these
systems unnecessary.
Situation:
My CPU won’t start.
Situation:
Upon startup— Windows XP asks for a user
password—and I don’t know it.
Situation:
My system is operating, but certain features and
functions have stopped working or are behaving very
erratically.
Situation:
My CPU won’t start.
Solution: Determine whether it’s
power/cable related or whether it’s software related.
Always double check power connections when a CPU won’t
start—test another device using the same outlet. Try
swapping computer power cables and plugging into a
different outlet. Complete system failures are rare
(but not impossible!). If this does not solve
the problem contact Mindware Music at 978-640-9778 for
live support and to receive system restoration disks.
See below for interim steps that may restore a system.
Situation:
Upon startup— Windows XP asks for a user
password—and I don’t know it.
Solution: Use safe mode to reset
the password or delete unwanted user accounts (Note:
not all ePiano functions support multiple user
accounts). Steps:
1. Restart the system
2. As the computer begins to restart press and
hold the <F8> key on the typewriter keyboard
3. Follow the steps to boot into Safe Mode (be
patient the system may run slower during these
operations)
4. If the system asks if you want to enter or
remain in safe mode—say yes.
5. Once in Safe Mode—Click on the <Start> button
in the lower left corner.
6. Choose <Control Panel>
7. Double Click on <User Accounts>
8. Click on the account you’re looking to change
and choose <Remove Password>, You may wish to delete
the account entirely if given the option to do so.
9. Restart the system and verify you can enter the
software normally.
Situation:
My system is operating, but certain features and
functions have stopped working or are behaving very
erratically. Caution:
Make sure it is not some other more simple problem
with the system before using this powerful tool. It
may disable any other recent changes you’ve made to
the system (including new programs etc).
Solution: Attempt a restoration
using the Windows XP Restore function. Steps:
1. From the main <Start> menu—choose <Programs>,
<Accessories>, <System Tools>, <System Restore>.
2. Choose the option to “Restore my system to an
earlier time” and select the most recent point from
the calendar that your system was working as
expected. Follow the prompts to restore the system
to this time and allow the restart to complete the
restoration.
3. Test for proper operation.
